AVID Receives FCS Small Business Award
AVID is honored to have been named the 2008 winner of the Future Combat Systems Supplier Diversity Award for the category of HUBZone Small Business.
FCS lead system integrators (SAIC and Boeing) as well as Tier 1 suppliers (Raytheon, BAE Systems, Lockheed, Northrop, GD, Textron and Honeywell) were asked to nominate their exceptional candidates from their supplier base.
Honeywell and BAE Systems both nominated AVID in the HUBZone Small Business.
AVID is leading the aerodynamic configuration development of the FCS Class I vehicle. The performance and sizing is performed by AVID by applying their validated design tools. AVID engineers have shaped the aerodynamic components. The designed components are the duct, fan, stators and control vanes. Through analysis of vehicle dynamics, AVID has assisted with the placement of internal components to meet controllability constraints. They have applied several levels of aerodynamic analysis from semi-empirical through computational fluid dynamics. Validation of the aerodynamic predictions is a continuing effort through comparison with various forms of experimental data. The AVID team of engineers has developed the aerodynamic models for simulation from both computational and wind tunnel data sets.
AVID is one of six companies honored with a 2008 FCS Small Business DART (Diversity Advocacy Roundtable Team) Award. The nomination criterion was based on quality performance, delivery performance, competitive pricing, product support/customer service and some other considerations. Other categories that were honored included Small Disadvantages Business, Women Owned Small Business, Veteran Owned Small Business, and Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business.
“We are honored by this appreciation of our efforts and commitment to the FCS program, and we are proud to support the FCS program and One Team Partners." -- Paul Gelhausen, Chief Technical Officer
