AVID has a strong capability in the engineering assessment of future technologies to improve their performance. The objective analysis of technology concepts and needs is a core capability of AVID and the company is structured to maintain that objective viewpoint. AVID combines engineering and software development to continue to advance conceptual and preliminary design methodologies for all types of air vehicles. The intent is to simultaneously develop advanced concept analysis methods, validate them against available data, and document the process of the analyses. In this way, the analysis methods are captured in a more formal way than the “quick and dirty” spreadsheet analyses that are so prevalent in conceptual design today. The effort to codify and document the methods, assumptions and validation pays off in the confidence in the results and reuse of fundamental methods.
