AVID President to Instruct V/STOL Course

Virginia Tech invites AVID LLC President Sam Wilson to Instruct ME/AOE "V/STOL Aircraft Design and V/STOL Concepts Review"

On August 15, 2005 AVID LLC announced that Sam Wilson will instruct the "V/STOL Aircraft Design and V/STOL Concepts Review" course this Fall Semester at Virginia Tech.  Sam Wilson's expertise in the area, as well as the expertise of AVID LLC, continues to be an invaluable tool to the aircraft design community.

ME/AOE 4984/5984 "Introduction to V/STOL Aircraft Design and V/STOL Concepts Review"

 

Audience

Graduate students and students with Senior stating in the college of Engineering interested in exploring how to design V/STOL aircraft and review of lessons learned from previous V/STOL aircraft concepts.

 

Catalog Description

The design of Vertical/Short Takeoff and Landing aircraft is becoming increasingly important in today’s aerospace industry, especially in the UAV sector. As such, this is an important study topic for both senior undergraduate and graduate students.  A course focusing on V/STOL aircraft design was offered at Virginia Tech Fall 2004, and is available again this Fall (2005).  Sam Wilson, a widely recognized expert on the subject of V/STOL aircraft concepts, will lead the students on a discovery of what worked, what didn't work, and most importantly why!

AVID LLC, with locations in Blacksburg and Yorktown, Virginia, specializes in aircraft design consulting and aircraft analysis and design software. AVID provides aircraft design expertise and software support to U.S. Government agencies and aerospace companies, for both military and commercial sectors. Current projects emphasize design studies and design software for both small UAVs and manned aircraft.
